There’s a new rumour coming that says OpenAI will soon release its latest AI model – GPT-5.
A new report from Business Insider states that sometime in the middle of 2024 – likely in the summer, OpenAI plans to release GPT-5, an enhanced version of the AI language model that underpins ChatGPT. Enterprise customers reportedly received demos from OpenAI.
GPT-5, or whatever name it goes by, is anticipated to be a multimodal large language model (LLM) that can comprehend text just like its previous versions or models.
A large language model (LLM) is a kind of artificial intelligence algorithm that uses self-supervised learning techniques to process and comprehend text & human languages using neural network techniques with a large number of datasets scraped from the Internet. For example – ChatGPT by OpenAI and BERT by Google.
Generative Pre-Trained transformers (GPT) are a subset of large language models (LLMs). A popular framework for generative artificial intelligence, and it has tasks involving natural language processing that utilize artificial neural networks.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said, “I don’t know,” in response to a question concerning the release of GPT-5 during a recent interview on Lex Fridman’s podcast. That’s a truthful response. Altman went on to say that OpenAI will release a wonderful new model this year, though the company hasn’t decided on a name yet.
Here is the YouTube Podcast Video of Sam Altman talking to Lex Fridman:
Sam Altman is an American investor and businessman who has been the CEO of OpenAI since 2019 (he was temporarily fired and then appointed back in November 2023). Altman is regarded as one of the pioneers of the AI revolution.
Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Elon Musk, Jessica Livingston, Peter Thiel, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, Infosys, and YC Research provided the initial funding for OpenAI. Since its 2015 founding, OpenAI has raised $1 billion.
In 2018, OpenAI released the first GPT. Very significant GPT foundation models that have been released by OpenAI and are numbered sequentially make up its “GPT-n” series. GPT-4, the most recent of them, was made available in March 2023.
The report states that OpenAI is currently training GPT-5. Once training is finished, the model will go through additional “red teaming” and internal safety testing to find and fix any problems before it is made available to the public. The length of the safety measures could cause the release date to be extended.
The business is also heading toward using its technology on robots that imitate humans. The startup and Figure AI will work together to create humanoid robots intended for use in industrial settings.
A robot that mimics the general structure of a human being is called a humanoid robot.
Additionally, NVIDIA unveiled Project GR00T, a foundation model for humanoid robots that is intended for general use.
We are excited about the release of the new GPT version and waiting to see its advanced features. Let’s wait till OpenAI releases it and we’ll see how competitive & useful this model will be.
